Before midnight

"Before Midnight" feels less like a movie than the placing of a camera and allowing it to film the lives of the people in front of it. It is so real and earthy that I could imagine myself sitting in and adding to the conversation. We are meant to be a fly on the wall.

There is a lot of wisdom and philosophy contained here and the characters feel like people you know or would like to. Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy anchor this film and Richard Linklater directs with a looseness that lets the actors appear to freewheel.

Human angst, love and joy are all contained in this little slice of life which invites us to reflect on our own realities and how we are all trying to stay afloat and do our best with the time we are given.

In the meantime, it's complicated.
