The people I am most concerned about are those despondent trans people still in denial; those who think they have ruined the lives of their loved ones and who are racked with guilt over something which isn't really their fault. I want them to understand that it is gender dysphoria which essentially strips them of choice.
Thankfully there aren't many people left who wait until their mid forties to be diagnosed as I was. Today many of them are identified as kids because they don't need to hide and can be brought to gender clinics some even before puberty. That the right wing calls this child abuse speaks to their stupidity because sometimes a name change and new way of dressing at that tender age can make a world of difference until they can sort themselves out when they get older.
The very best reaction of parents to their child's revelation of the need for a gender correction was from Brisbane, Australia back in 2014: “In 1995 we announced the arrival of our sprogget, Elizabeth Anne, as a daughter. He informs us that we were mistaken. Oops! Our bad. We would now like to present our wonderful son Kai Bogert. Loving you is the easiest thing in the world. Tidy your room.”
ReplyDeleteIn this increasingly polarized world, it might be a long time before we can do much more than empathize with those who suffer from gender dysphoria. We who have escaped from its clutches can say loud and clear, The world is what is wrong - not you. Stay alive. Do not give up on yourself.
Couldn't have said it better myself dear friend:) the world is what needs fixing
