Holes

More than ever there is police presence in the metro system looking for loitering and people sleeping on benches who will sometimes put up fierce resistance upon being awakened. People who are increasingly falling off the grid have less and less places to go.

The world is not the same as the one I grew up in but then we were living on borrowed time. I happened to have caught the right wave and history finally decided that the old cycle was up. This current period much resembles the 1930's in both its anxiety and a tumult which eventually led the world into war.

I suppose we should take both solace and dread in the knowledge that we don't seem to learn. Thus we can see things coming because the world has seen it before but become equally disillusioned by the fact that we repeatedly seem to fall into the very same holes.
