Mandatory

I have reflected on why it can take us so long to not care what people think. But then we remind ourselves that indoctrination begins early and we are taught to measure up by comparison. We watch others behave and are told to emulate and follow in their footsteps. 

Whether this is right for us or not is immaterial. Thou shalt be assimilated. 

At this age I only care about the opinion of people I respect and who are close to me. What the general public thinks is completely irrelevant and it has freed me. I don't look around to see who is looking unless someone is rude and then sometimes I pass on a message when I am in the mood.. 

Liberation from public opinion is pivotal for full self-actualization when you aren't transgender. But if you are, it becomes mandatory.
