Hopefully downhill

Now that Trump has been told he doesn't have the immunity to order assassinations of political opponents (something a third grader could logically determine on their own), things will start to go badly for him. Jack Smith will go into trial with overwhelming evidence that almost doesn't need a court case. The true problem is more a political climate which has a large swath of the population mesmerized by a malevolent and dangerous idiot.

The talk of civil war has been ramped up but it will more likely take the form of unrest with death threats on judges and politicians and no doubt plenty of demonstrations. As we have seen in many countries currently and in the past, the allure of strongmen tactics is something which takes much effort to eradicate; usually after much harm has already been done.

This is the part of human psychology I have the most trouble with: the extent to which people will abandon rational thought and jump head first into delusion. I could almost understand if there were redeemable qualities in Trump, but after all these years I have been hard pressed to find any.
