I've often written that the more virulent your gender dysphoria is, the more choice is removed but that makes it sound like you are being helplessly dragged along into an abyss. As someone who ignored a deep impetus to be who I am for decades, the call for authenticity became stronger as excuses kept falling by the wayside and fear of rejection dissipated.
If one answers the call and life improves it is how we know we have not erred. The key seems to be to not overstep a line which can be helped along by a thorough reflection process which turns your transition process into a unique formula. Most of the detransition stories I see involve undertaking surgical procedures which are later regretted. The vast majority of detransitioners are young which makes sense since impulsiveness is mostly found in youth. But if we end up in the right professional hands and with enough careful introspection, we should find a way that improves quality of life.If older transgender people tended to suffer from suppression and denial, today it is potentially from a bounty of numerous options such that, from where I sit now and despite my typical rational approach to things, I might be conflicted about what to do in this era were I 25.
