Zeal

I find the most tenacious of the gender criticals to be fascinating creatures because their zeal is what gives them away. People like Graham Linehan whose obesiveness cost him his marriage is one of those who leaves you scratching your head. JK Rowling who had sexual trauma at the hands of men, now sees transgender people ostensibly as potential bathroom predators so clearly there is more than meets the eye behind the most ardent warriors.

I am firmly on the record as saying that people who don't need to transition shouldn't, but that does not mean that no one should. Certainly, detransitioners should not be used as role models for everyone else.

It is the almost religious and fervent tenacity of these criticals that makes me suspicious that there is great transphobia behind their mission.  Rather than genuine interest in helping people, their point seems to be more about eradicating by finding victims of the medical system and making them archetypal martyrs.

Tomorrow I have an afternoon call with a sexologist and other transgender people to discuss this very topic.
