Cure for loneliness

I can attest that what she says is completely true. I talk to strangers all the time and it often makes my day :)

  1. In Seattle, ANY dress or coordinated outfit worn amounts to a retro look. A few years ago, I was stopping by the grocery store on my way home from a summer semi-formal gathering, dressed in an animal print maxi dress and 4" heels (the dress was so long, that I needed that much height to keep the dress from dragging). That put me at 6'1", which is still shorter than many of my trans sisters, but still fairly tall. While I was pulling a cart from the corral, a man who saw me walk in left his wife at the checkout stand to come right up to me to say, "Wow! You are one monumental woman!" I was a bit taken aback by that comment, and could only say "Thank you" in return. He started to say something else, but his wife quickly came up with her bags of groceries and pulled him out of the store. It was not really much of a conversation, of course, but my presentation sure made an impact (on both of them, really). I've since decided that the word he must have meant to say was "statuesque," rather than "monumental." Or, maybe I should have my face carved into Mt. Rushmore? LOL

    1. Hahaha that is a great story. I don't aim to stand out as already 6' 1" but I don't shy away from wearing what I want which ultimately must include comfort since I hate discomfort. But no matter what I wear I talk to nice people while waiting for buses, on the bus itself, in cafés, etc and have made a number of regular acquaintances that way. There is no need to be shy if we know who we are;)
