Goodness, fairness and charity are not politically interesting or viable concepts. They are rejected because far too many don't really want a world like that. They want to be able to wield the levers of power at the price of keeping others subjugated.
I think about neoliberal policies which opened up global markets so we could consume things cheaply in the west. Now the US threatens countries with the cheap labor force that facilitated buying $5 T-shirts or inexpensive laptops, with tariffs when their own labor force has been hollowed out.
The short sightedness is staggering.
Even if you were able build your own homegrown industry quickly enough you wouldn't be able to pay the meager wages and have your workers be able to clothe, feed and house themselves. Look no further than Amazon workers for the types of low wage conditions that are pushing them towards forming unions.
People don't think and don't care to as they are too much fascinated by cat videos or some other social media rubbish. 60% of the American adult population does not read above a 6th grade level.
But if we want to understand the rise of authoritarian regimes around the world look no further than this backlash on globalization which has affected migration patterns arounf the world and encouraged nationalist right wing parties to vilanize immigrants as well as other vulnerable groups they despise. We want revenge for self-inflicted wounds.
Turns out that there is a price for having your cake and eating it too.
