Putting yourself back together into one piece can take a long time. When I was forced into split personality living I had two stereotypes existing leading parallel lives. One wasn't allowed any femininity and the other no masculinity. It is when you try to fuse them back together that the psyche can be challenged and take a while to adjust.
This cleanup is still happening and may never entirely stop. Perhaps it will quiet down to a negligible whisper.
Most people don't spend very much time thinking about their gender and exist on an auto pilot mode whereas transgender people can spend an enormous amount of time navigating a minefield. Either that or blocking it out completely and pretending it's not there until their egg cracks.
Young transgender people today don't need to fashion a double existence which will save them a whole lot on shrink bills on multiple personality disorder.
