I watched Canadian physician Gabor Mate offer his own opinion of Jordan Peterson during an interview and he captured exactly the same problem I have with him. It is the comptemptuous rage which seethes underneath every pronouncement.
Of course Mate, who specializes in issues of childhood development and trauma, was ever so diplomatic in his mild-mannered way but his finding was hardly earth shattering. Peterson is full of disdain for what he calls the sins of post-modernism and its moral relativity. His talks and social media postings have made him the intellectual of the right wing who are sorely lacking in academics who spit venom. Small wonder he joined Ben Shapiro's pinhead "the world is going to hell" empire.
The 80 year old Mate, is both patient and kind with people who disagree with him, which contrasts sharply in style with the other's haughty dismissive tone. He seems to embrace understanding and calm in the face of adversity.
Peterson, who is my age, represents almost everything I can't stand about people who refuse to grow out of grievance mode and exist perennially in a state of recollection for a world passing them by.
Don't force him to use pronouns he doesn't believe in or he will castigate you with his acerbic wit and give you a bloody good tongue lashing to boot.
