When their guard is down

Most people are kind. 

It's when you talk to them openly and with a smile that you get to see the best of them when their guard is down. If you are open with them they will do the same with you. 

Growing up I learned to protect myself because in my time there was a lot of public judgement over difference and so I braced myself by developing the readiness of a nasty bite I no longer require. 

Today's youth in particular see themselves differently and they embrace regardless of what they look like. They also exude a confidence that speaks to having been raised less weighted down by strict adherence to the societal gospel of hypocrisy many of us who are older were indoctrinated under. 

I so love them for it.
