If you want to truly know who you are there are three things you need to get rid of first to find out. Guilt, shame and most importantly fear must be dealt with. Grappling with the last one was the one that allowed my path to be crystal clear. This is not just fear of being in public but also fear of rejection by friends and family. I regularly see confident transgender people in my daily travels living their lives.
Failure to address these things will always be akin to drinking from a blocked straw.By eliminating fear I don't mean to be foolhardy but you need to imagine your life being lived with the same confidence as if you were not transgender. If the stigma remains however, then things will always remain unresolved and I can attest with great personal experience that people can smell fear like a pungent cologne. Get rid of it without being unsafe.
I only wish I had learned this much sooner in life.
Well, I have overcome the first 2 over the last 4 years, thankfully. I think fear is gonna take a long time. But baby steps.
