It ought not surprise

One of the easiest ways to show how sex and gender are separate is to take the example of a lesbian. I used to work with a very petite and feminine engineer called Megan who happened to have a wife. Here we had an example of someone who was very comfortable with her female nature and yet was only attracted to women. There was a very clear decoupling between her gender identity and the expectation of sexual attraction for her birth sex.

Therefore one can feel feminine or masculine irrespective of birth sex and have attraction to either sex or to both. It's all very basic as Kinsey long ago discovered in his 1948 studies on male and female sexuality and Harry Benjamim found with the various combinations of gender expression and identity with his hundreds of patients.

In very simple terms then we can say that humans are highly complex creatures with a series of characteristics that aren't always aligned with what we might expect. Yes we have our main predominant groupings but in the margins we have varying typologies.

This simple reality astonishes the simple minded, the religiously programmed and the dogmatic conservative warriors but it ought not to. It should be entirely expected.
