A new contract

The tactical errors of the republican party are coming back to haunt them. When they decided to go with a cultural strategy they didn't calculate that their aging base was running counter to trend. Younger people are more progressive and liberal and don't espouse prejudice as easily as scared older white people. The southern strategy of long ago has run its course.

They banked on strawman tactics by villifying minorities to sell the idea that only they could govern. Right wing media helped them and petrified their geriatric audience with false statistics that urged them to vote against their own interests. Critical thinking being in woefully short supply, it proved to work on many.

But things are reversing and most of the American population is now tired of Trump"s accordion hand gestures, his blinding stupidity, his slurring speech and perennial whine. The shtick isn't working as well as it once was particularly with independents.

If the tide turns in November it won't cure American society or the world of idiocy or callousness but it will hopefully be the start of a new contract with youth that needs desperately to take over from old and frightened white people who have lost their way and no longer understand a world which is increasingly passing them by.
