Doubt

Doubt is an inevitable component of the life of every person but one almost ever present in the minds of transgender people in particular. How to navigate our gender dysphoria can become a lifelong mental discussion which can go through peaks and valleys.

This post is prompted by recently reading the comment section of a gender therapist video filled with a mixture of trepidation, joy and doubt.

It's invariable that I need look no further than the comment sections of videos. The angst that it can instill in individuals who agonize over how far to go with all this can make for very complex introspection.

I have gone through many phases in my life beginning with complete denial and moving through the various stages of self-acceptance which culminated in where I am today. Despite this being my best juncture to date, no one is completely free of doubt which simply confirms our humanity. What we want is to always go back to fundamentals and ask how this journey began in the first place which, for many if not most of us, manifests itself in early childhood.

Whether we choose medical transition or not is less important than the acknowledgement that our disconnect deserves addressing with both serious and meticulous intent; tweaking perenially as we go along. We acknowledge that it is not a game of dress up or a sport and that it deserves the respect that a mature mind is particularly well suited to provide.

The rest of the formula is up to us.
