Q&A

I was watching a Q&A where someone brought up a question regarding the connection, if any, between what they thought was a fetish and identity. They wanted to know whether something which started off as a kink could develop into a transgender identity. The answer from the video host was that it could but I have my own thoughts.

Many if not most transgender people present to clinicians after knowing for a long time that something was amiss with their identity often before hiting puberty although not everyone discovers it early.

However there is a subset of people who have an interest in cross gender expression and its repetition brings them comfort with the right chemical hit to the brain pleasure center such that they begin to question core gender identity.

Of course no one can tell you who you are but if there isn't any significant discomfort with living as a male most of the time then nothing needs to happen other than to find a personal formula which works for them.

Some people keep asking whether they are transgender thinking that it offers some magical recipe when it doesn't. It certainly does not tell you whether you should take hormones or transition.

It's a term not a road map for what to do and never was especially when we know that dysphoria, if it exists in a person, tends to be a graded phenomenon.
