The last 200 years have seen more technological progress than the preceeding 1,000. For most of our history people toiled just to put food on the table and struggled with diseases we now take for granted which cut their lives short. However, despite leading safer and more sedentary lives we seem to be less content than before.
There's too much time to think about how restless we are as humans and anxiety and depression have risen as a consequence. Our disconnect from face to face social interaction has helped feed isolation and paranoia.
There is an antidote but it will take time to rebuild the infrastructure we have lost. People will need to find each other again in a spirit of community with a common mission to save our world from climate disaster, corporate greed and runaway income inequality.
We can do it.
