Clearing a lens

Most of us don't see ourselves as we truly are but rather through the lens that we were taught to see others. This is what allows imposter syndrome and internalized transphobia to not only exist but to spectacularly thrive. The older you currently are, the higher the likelihood you suffer from it or have done so in the past.

Make no mistake, any type of gender transition is not for the faint of heart especially when you are older and replete with baggage. It requires fortitude and courage which are finally bolstered by the fatigue of years of viewing ourselves through a clouded lens. It is why youth today see themselves with more kindness and empathy than we did through having avoided harsh judgement and anal-retentive rules.

The good news is that our own personal lens can be polished and made clear again through a process.

It's a process called introspection.
