Letting go nicely benefits us all. Relationships are supposed to be 2-way and when they aren't we will be left somewhat flustered and bewildered. The most obvious example here is family where your identity is suddenly at best a mild inconvenience and we are left trying to fit ourselves into a schema that doesn't work and perhaps never really did.
Those of us who are older tended to suffer this situation the most. A coming out was dealt with as a combination of shock, complete obtuseness, various forms of acceptance and even outright rejection. Trying to find room within this model can have us experience varying levels of toxicity which do nothing for our self-esteem. Letting go of people who do absolutely nothing to feed into a mutually beneficial relationship might be our only way to keep our dignity intact especially if they never bother to find out who you really are.It seems to work for me since there is no anger involved. You just wish them the best.
