The bigger picture

It would be easy to say that what we call Trumpism today is a passing phase when it is not. Trump was merely the facilitator in unleashing behaviour that exists in every society. There is always an unhealthy amount of racism, misogyny and general unpleasantness under the surface.

When the population is unhappy it is far easier to stoke those embers into a fire which is what the last 8 years have shown us. Hitler was able to do much the same in the 1930's in a country with a ravaged economy and promises of a return to greatness in speeches which riled up his crowds. Most of us find them abhorrent in both their rhetoric and their fanaticism.

Yes, Trump is an idiot but you don't need intelligence to whip a crowd into a frenzy you just need sufficient anger and vitriol to appeal to base instinct. Solutions to real world problems require very nuanced and multi-faceted solutions simply because you must think more globally with no one person being entirely happy but that is the nature of reality. When you are governing 350 million people, not all will get their wish.

Inability to think of the bigger picture is what disappoints and fascinates me with grown adults being incapable of factoring in all of the facets of an issue and instead falling prey to the simplistic ramblings of a moron.
