"The Beautiful Game" is about redemption and the idea that we help ourselves by helping others. Vinny Walker is a young Englishman who thinks he is now a washed up footballer having missed his chance at greatness. Now he is in dire straits, separated from his wife and young daughter and sleeping in his car.
Suddenly there is an offer from Bill Nighy's character (in an understated but dignified performance) who used to be a pro scout. Vinny is offered the chance to play in the Homeless Cup which is a tournament for other people needing second chances. This time it's happening in Rome.I won't say how things turn out only that this is a film most definitely worthy of your time.
On Netflix.
