Once again the top countries in terms of happiness are all social democracies which is hardly a surprise. The US slips yet again this time to 24th place and unsurprisingly Canada drops to 18th place from 15th in 2024.
Finland is number one followed by Denmark, Iceland, Sweden, Netherlands, Costa Rica, Norway, Israel, Luxembourg and Mexico which round out the top 10. The fact that Mexico has moved up so much is undoubtedly thanks to Claudia Sheinbaum's policies which focus on bettering the social contract with the people and improving their quality of life.
It's no secret that a society is only as healthy as how well the working class is doing and clearly things have been declining for the world's wealthiest nations as inequality within them increases and it gets harder for the average person to make ends meet. Technology has also had a hand in the most industrialized nations towards feeding social isolation which has corroded human contact and community spirit.
These problems need repairing and form part of the battle against right wing authoritarian movements which are capitalizing on social discontent to seed division in the world and make dangerous structural changes.
We've been here before and will again.
