People who irritate us expose our blind spots and weaknesses ultimately doing us a favor. The fact that we are forced into management tactics to deal with them only helps improve us in the long run.
The type of people who most unnerve me are erratic and overly emotional. They speak too loudly and lack decorum and take us back to childhood when we felt embarrassed by them. They upset the peace of mind we are trying to maintain and we become frustrated when they succeed. Our composure has fallen victim to their ways and we must yet again adjust our technique.
My mother is one such character who lives on the edge of emotion and with age becomes even more unfiltered (if such a thing was possible). Perhaps it makes sense that our parents are most able to unsettle because we have been testing our mettle against them for our entire lives.
Over time we become the parent and they the child and we must be more patient with them than we sometimes want to.
