Wounded child

YouTube is full of relationship and mental health advice. It is a bonanza of podcasts and specialty channels dealing with childhood trauma, anxiety, addictions, depression and every other condition one can think of.

It's not a secret why these are popular because we are highly complex creatures susceptible to being bent out of shape and needing to heal.

Everyone has a wounded child in them who surfaces every once in a while especially when conflict strikes. Our attachment style is even influenced by how we were parented and the messaging we swallowed whole.

By this age I am very aware of all this and as I spoke to an ex-colleague over coffee lately about his new relationship with a newly divorced woman with two small children it made little alarm bells go off. Suddenly I had visions of arguments over children with an ex-husband who doesn't appreciate his meddling. His new wife's wounded child then emerges in the melee and he takes the shrapnel from both sides.

Who said life was easy.
