Average citizen

Claudette doesn't know that I am transgender and after running into her and chatting for a bit about current politics she began to parrot a right wing talking point about woke culture and LGBTQ people. She didn't want to have their agenda imposed on her. 

I asked her how that was happening and of course she couldn't properly answer other than point to their increasing presence in media. 

She is in her mid 70's and I see her infrequently when I start my morning walk. She is also a nice person but not overly well versed in a lot of areas. For me she represents the average citizen of her generation who knows just enough to avoid being dangerous but could use educating. Progressive she is not but neither is she right wing. 

I do my part to question and challenge them without losing the friendly tone and they listen.

"I am a woke woman" I said as we parted ways and she laughs.
