In some ways Trump has been good for Canada because he woke us from our stupor. The benevolent giant to the south of us turned out to be less reliable than we thought and more prone to being bamboozled than we dared imagine.
The fact that 40% still support this monster is the stuff of nightmares for a country with collectivist tendencies in place of "don't tread on me" individualism. He could axe murder 20 people tomorrow and not make a sufficient dent in his support which is beyond disturbing.
As a result things will never go back to where they were; at least not in my lifetime for a basic trust has been broken 77 million times.
That there are amazing Americans is beyond question but not in sufficient number to instill confidence and when we see people struggle to find their own state on a map (never mind name their governor) it makes it easier to understand how people can be manipulated.
Canada is a social democracy with no interest in becoming an ethno-centric and neo-fascist state and hence we must distance ourselves to escape being infected by the same illness converting our neighbors into North Korea with a saccharine but vicious cross-wearing mouthpiece to match.
We are mild mannered but far from stupid and we are pissed beyond words.
Anyone who still believes in American exceptionalism as a concept must assuredly be cured of it by now.
