If you aren't convinced that human beings as a collective are hopeless you haven't been paying attention particularly over the last decade. All the cracks in our societal foundation are exposed and we can see how geopolitical challenges are bringing out the worst in many of us.
The most notable example is the US implosion right before our eyes as culture wars along party lines are destroying what is left of the country. The two party system having failed the population, people are looking for vengeance for what happened to their ability to have a reasonably prosperous life. Livelihoods have been sacrificed at the altar of an oligarchy which enriched itself through neoliberal policies and there will be hell to pay.
There is conflict everywhere as unfounded conspiracies try to blame current world problems on anything but the complex reality we face. The world economic order is broken and too many people face an uncertain future while a tiny fraction live in opulence.
This is a bomb waiting to go off.
I wish people were kinder and more intelligent but the demographics aren't about to improve anytime soon. When you put populations under pressure you introduce volatility which simply begs for conflict.
As we reshape society for the future a series of shocks will continue to happen until it's done and it won't be pretty.
