Religion as bludgeon

The use of religion as weapon by ignorant people fascinates me. They use their belief system as a bludgeon to hate on others rather than to love which is the antithesis of what a good person should be.

I watch podcasts or call in shows where people use irrational arguments to defend their views using simple phrases like "It's in the Bible" which for a critical thinking atheist is an invitation to pounce like the red matador cape is to the bull.

Matt Dillahunty is formidable in that way and you better not have lapses of logic when you face him. When something isn't provable the best answer is to say "We don't know that" rather than argue without proof. He's locked heads with Jordan Peterson before and come out of it looking far better because of his calm disdain and immunity to Peterson's affinity for word salad.

Matt asks his callers for their pronouns when they call in to his show and unsurpsingly the callers often leave them out and put some other word that tips their hand as transphobes. They hold a core belief that their faith should be held over others in judgement as Matt slowly but surely embarrasses and dismantles them with cold intellect during their conversation.

It never fails.
