Victimhood

I don't like the idea of victimhood; that we are somehow trapped by our emotions and feelings about ourselves which keep us powerless.

Over the years I decided to give myself fuller control over who I am to feel comfortable being a person who doesn't need validation from the outside. That validation has to come from inside ourselves.

Identity is about knowing who you are and takes into account the sum of our experiences. We try to make sense of the factors that went into our education and put them into perspective to decide what needs to change or be improved. We take ownership which then leads to raising self-esteem by making us masters over our actions instead of helpless victims. I learned long ago that the person best suited to help us is ourselves.

Understanding our identity then helps us to protect and cherish it. That includes valuing aspects that many people may not like but are intrinsic to us and bring us value. We don't need to constantly trumpet who we are but we don't hide either. We stop asking permission to be who we are as identities are not up for approval.

We stop being victims to life.
