As we become older people will irritate us more because we have figured out how many of them function.
Thus we aren't afraid of them or concerned with their opinions but then we may still harbour frustrations about how much sway they once had in our lives.
'What will people think" becomes passe unless it is reserved for the right people.
I visited my neighbour Monika last night who is recovering from stroke and we talked about this. At 69 she realizes how much wasted energy was spent worrying and focused towards parts of life that pale in comparison to the health she once had.
I tell her to not give up and live in the moment while finding the people with hearts of gold that are everywhere to be found.
She sees the situation in the world and wishes things were better but acknowledged she needs to surround herself with a support that returns to her a faith in society.
She tells me her father was a mean drunk who belittled her and that inner child is still healing. As the oldest she bore the brunt of his alcoholic binges.
No doubt he needed healing as well and told her so just before his death at age 69 from cancer.
