A big win

Keir Starmer's ascension to power with such a decisive victory is not that surprising. After years of conservative rule which included a Brexit which is regretted by many Britons, the writing was clearly on the wall.

Conservatives these days don't govern well especially when their most recent incarnations include culture war outrage which only divides and distracts the populace from their incompetence. They know how to hate others in addition to having forgotten that their origins lay primarily in fiscal restraint. Sunak's entitled background most assuredly did not provide him the proper reflexes.

No party or government is perfect and if France can now avoid a Marie Le Pen led rabidly right wing government, Europe may yet avoid being dragged into a wide spread reflexive protectionism coming from a fringe right wing which these days consistently foams at the mouth from fear-generated hate.
