Whatever significant changes happen in your life sees your psychology always lagging a bit behind. The reason for this is that the brain thrives on repetition and routine which when interrupted requires there be an adjustment period.
This is why the combination of retirement and living more authentically than ever before has taken a while to become a steady normal. It's a series of miniscule and constant adjustments taking place.
People say that transition (whatever form it takes for you) is a journey and not a destination and indeed they couldn't be more correct. It is an iterative process of more and more becoming yourself.
Everyone's life is like this; or at least should be if we are earnestly examining it as we go.
