When I was the age of my children I couldn't imagine how people would ever be as cruel again after the Jewish holocaust. After the war, the Nuremberg trials brought out a whole slew of conclusions from experts regarding the hypnosis of following orders and being a cog in a bigger wheel but it didn't explain it all.
Today, even a perfunctory look at comments on YouTube regarding the famine in Gaza, confirms what at this age I know only too well: some people are detestable assholes.
Of course my naiveté burned off long ago but I wasn't prepared for the combination of sheer stupidity and cruelty of this particular era. The lack of critical thinking and short sightedness almost leaves you breathless at times.
"I'm fine with the cruelty on others as long as it doesn't impact me"
Sometimes I despair and think it's preferable talking with dogs and cats than some people. The intelligence might be on par but at least, in the case of the animals, the cruelty is largely missing.
